Orquesta Revé @ Festival Nacional del Changüí 2007

The 6th National Changüí Festival in memory of Elio Revé Matos will take place in Guantanamo from May 30th - June 3rd. This year will include the participation of Orquesta Revé and Los Van Van. On the second night of the event Van Van will perform in Plaza Pedro Augustín Pérez, health permitting, Pastorita Yuani Sayús, the inspiration for the famous changüí "El guararey de Pastora", will dance changüí on stage with Van Van to the song she inspired.

If you will be unable to make a trip to Guantanamo for the festival, you can still see Orquesta Revé and Los Van Van together in concert on May 19th in Havana as they give Habaneros a small taste of the changüí festival.

This year will also see the 1st International Workshop on Changüí "el changüinaso" for national and international musicians who wish to update their knowledge of the instruments, dance and genre-related topics surrounding the most indigenous musical style from Guantanamo, Changüí. This pre-festival workshop takes place from May 27 - 30. To sign up for the workshop you must confirm your participation by May 15th. Adalberto Álvarez Tour - click here for concert dates!

It's June and the European Summer tour season is beginning! Los Van Van is already on tour with a performance tonight in Karlsruhe, Germany. Click here to see the rest of the Van Van tour dates. Adalberto Álvarez arrives in Europe on June 5th promoting his excellent new CD "Respeto pa' los mayores". Don't miss your chance to see the new songs live, and bring some extra cash in case they are selling the CD at concerts! Here is the current list of confirmed concerts for Adalberto, but check back in a few days because there are more dates to be added! Maykel Blanco y Salsa Mayor will start their tour with a concert at La Bomba in Padua, Italy on June 12th. Here are Maykel's Tour plans. Manolito y Su Trabuco will arrive at the end of June for a June/July tour. Here are some of the concert dates for El Trabuco. Calixto Oviedo is performing tonight in Copenhagen, Denmark with Latin Jazz Syndicate at Jazzhus Montmartre. Later this month he will begin a series of concerts and workshops in Japan becfore returning to the US for a series of summer concerts across the country. His current schedule can be found here. Also in the US, I'm sure no one has missed that Havana D'Primera is on tour as well as Barbaro Fines y su Orquesta Mayimbe. We will update the Mayimbe Tours page at the beginning of next week, so check back then. Tiempo Libre has also updated their tours page so check it out! Timba.com wants to congratulate Pachito Alonso y Sus Kini Kini on their 30th Anniversary, which they are celebrating tonight at La Tropical. The party should be starting right about...now! Invitados include Adalberto Álvarez, Revé, Bamboleo and Salsa Mayor, among many others.

Over the past 30 years Pachito Alonso y sus Kini Kini has been one of the great schools for young Cuban musicians. Here are a few name that should be familiar to you: Robertón and Lele, Tirso Duarte, Orlando & Lázaro Mengual, Lázaro Valdés, Vania Borges, Rigoberto López, Carlos Álvarez, Amaury Pérez and Cristobal Verdecía,j juts to name a few not to mention Pachito's sons Christian and Rey.

For those of us not able to attend the concert tonight, let me leave you with the title track to their last album, "Pasarela", from 2011.

Good news for timba fans: 2012 looks to be a rich harvest of new CDs! This topic will be coming up again and again as the year progesses and more of the CDs become available! We will be back soon with more news about CDs by Bamboleo, Tumbao Habana, Charanga Latina, Elito Revé y su Charangón and many more to come!

We start of with the new release by Giraldo Piloto & Klímax: "Todo está bien". The album should be available online within about 24 hours! "Todo está bien" contains 11 tracks, several of which have already been dance-floor hits for some time now. This album is a must for DJs and connoisseurs alike!

Another important release this year is the long-awaited second CD by Havana D'Primera entitled "Pasaporte". I don't know the release date, but Lionel from FiestaCubana.net has posted the following track list. It includes a number of songs that have been out for a while as singles as well as some new tracks.

Maykel Blanco y Salsa Mayor are also in the studio, and Maykel reports that they are recording the metales now, so they should be moving on to mixing and mastering quite soon! The CD doesn't have a name yet and Maykel says he's fielding suggestions if anyone has ideas. It would be nice if they could have it ready in time for their summer tour (June 22-July 8), but that is probably just wishful thinking! Tracks include: Yordi - Sabrosa, La calle está caliente, Tres hermanos & El artistasoy yo; Yasser - La figura & something he says is for the girls who don't like to stay at home; Alexis - El Kilo, Tremenda pinta, Tú no eres mi amigo & Hazte.

Here is a little peek into the recording studio including interviews with Maykel, where he tells us that the band is developing some new percussion patterns in the song "Tú no eres mi amigo". This sounds very exciting! So check out the video and preparense que vienen Los Mayores otra vez!
