MIAMI

Notwithstanding occasional rumors to the contrary, some quality music from Cuba is still making it to the city. Global Cuba Fest looks great this year, with the most relevant highlights as follows:

Saturday, March 7 (North Beach Bandshell):

9pm | Yelsy Heredia and the Changüí Project

Saturday, March 14 (Miami Dade County Auditorium)
8pm | Piano Marathon Cubano featuring Jorge Luis Pacheco
9pm | Mambo #2020 “Mambo meets Timba” by Alain Perez and Julio Montalvo Orchestra in Concert

Roberto Fonseca's Chicago stop on his national tour will take place in the Old Town School of Folk music's original building on Armitage.

Award-winning singer-songwriter Alex Cuba is touring in support of his album Sublime, which Felix Contreras of NPR named as one of the best albums of 2019, as follows:

Aggua from Roberto Fonseca's new album Yesun

As part of their US tour, Roberto Fonseca will be at the Old Town School of Folk Music's Armitage Avenue location (seldom used for this type of concert today but the iconic location of the OTS for many years) with his drummer Raúl "Ruly" Herrera and bassist Yandy Martínez on Sunday, March 8 at 7pm. ENGLISH: Kiki Valera launched his new CD Vivencias en clave cubana (you can read Tom Ehrlich's review here) with several events on radio and in concerts last weekend. You can see a photo gallery of the concerts and studio session an KNKX here.
Kiki has been doing radio interviews for several stations, and Bill Tilford interviewed him in his home for his program From the Isle of Music. That interview will air the week of November 10-16.
