Cuba based rap duo, Zona Franka, blends traditional rhythms with the grit and swagger of hip-hop and rap vocal phrasings. Their clever shout choruses create instant tropical dance classics using their unique self-titled "changui con flow" style.

Interview with Kentucky Salsa All Stars Leader Edel Roque

Also: Gente d'Zona In Louisville January 9

Technical difficulties with a field recorder prevented an in situ recording, but after the Haila concert in Louisville, Bill Tilford and drummer/bandleader Edel Roque subsequently went back and had a brief recorded telephone conversation about the concert and about Edel's  group, the Kentucky Salsa All Stars, an excellent 12-piece ensemble composed mostly of young musicians educated in Cuba. You can hear a recording of that conversation (in English) here.
The KSAS will be releasing a recording with eight original songs mid-year; if it has the same energy that they bring to live concerts, it will be worth checking out.

Gente d'Zona fans in the Midwest will have an opportunity to see them live on Friday, January 9, at the same club that presented Haila in Louisville:
