Today for International Timba Month we celebrate the second group with an anniversary in April: Leonel Limonta & Azúcar Negra. Before starting his own orchestra, Leonel Limota wrote major hits for other bands: "24 días" for Issac, "Quítate el disfraz", "Nube pasajera", "El avión" and "Extraños ateos" for La CHaranga Habanera as well as almost all of the "Yo no me parezco a nadie" as manager for Bamboleo.

Now in full control of his own band, Limonta continued proving his extraordinary talent as songwriter with songs such as "Andar andando", "Vengo de etreno", "3 de azúcar y 2 de café", "Se acabó el pesca'o" and "Bailar con tacones". He also worked with many of the great female singers such as Haila Mompie, Monica Mesa, Tania Pantoja, and Ailyn Dallera. Recently he changed the format of the band to follow the times and has only male vocalists. Below is a clip of one of the new singles "Suave, Rico y Despacito" with Reiner Rojas on lead vocals.

Angelito & El Tren Bala

ENGLISH: This weekend El Tren Bala, which now includes singer Marcelo Villar, will be performing their last shows in Lima before starting their European 2017 summer tour organized by Greco Bayobar. The confirmed dates are posted below and if you know of any others please send an email with the date, city and venue.

Ángelito & El Tren Bala released their first CD "Mi Historia" at online vendors in 2016 and are only weeks away from releasing the singles "El Rey Del Timbón" and "Todo Está Escrito En Esta Vida". The new album will also include Marcelo on lead vocals.

They just finished a concert with Michel Maza last night and took a minute after the concert to record a greeting for the fans in Italy.

ENGLISH: Cuban singer-songwriters Israel Rojas and Yoel Martinez - better know as Buena Fe - and their team of musicians won big at the 2017 Cubadisco awards. They took home Best Recording, Best Fusion Album and the Grand Prize. It may not be a coincidence that they were awarded the Grand Prize the same year that Trova was the theme. I have posted my review of "Sobreviviente" in our reviews section. The album is available at digital retailers, via streaming apps and the hardcopy can be purchased online at Amazon and Target.

Buena Fe will be performing tonight at El Sauce in Havana and celebrating two birthdays: Yoel Martinez and Yibran Rivero, the new electric guitarist who joined after the tragic death of Dairon Rodriguez. Yibran is best known for his work with the young trova group D'Corazón. To keep up with Buena Fe follow them at the Buena Fe Official Facebook page. Jovenes Clasicos del Son - Madrid

ENGLISH: Los Jóvenes Clásicos del Son are back in Europe for a three month tour that begins tonight in Madrid at Sala Galileo. Tonight's concert is a special tribute to Antonio Machín who passed away forty years ago. We have started a tours page for JCS and will update it as more concerts are confirmed, so stay tuned!

Timba fans will recognize lead vocalist José Antonio Rodriguez "Pepitín" from his time with Maykel Blanco y Salsa Mayor and Manolito y Su Trabuco. If you want to familiarize yourself with the new incarnation of the band, you can purchase their 2016 release "El Bar de Paco". Here is a sample of one of the songs - traditional music and yet with a touch of modernity. You'll see what I'm talking about when you watch the video.
