Cuba based rap duo, Zona Franka, blends traditional rhythms with the grit and swagger of hip-hop and rap vocal phrasings. Their clever shout choruses create instant tropical dance classics using their unique self-titled "changui con flow" style.

Eduardo Quintana

cuban music, musica cubana

instrumento/instrument: flute, wind controller/EWE

grupos/groups: Tiempo Libre

grabaciones/recordings: Tiempo Libre: Arroz con mango

lugar de nacimiento/birthplace: Puerto Cabello, Venezuela

formación musical/musical background: private studies

lugar actual de residencia/current residence: Miami

One of the few, if not the only, Venezuelans to appear on this site, Eduardo's super-enthusiastic performances with Tiempo Libre have led his bandmates to honor him as "practically" Cuban. He knew plenty about timba before arriving in Miami, a lot of which he learned from the Venezuelan timba band Guaco. On wind controller, Eduardo produces the sound of two or three horn players, which is part of Tiempo Libre's formula for achieving a Cuban (14-person) sound on a stateside budget.
