Gerardo left Orquesta Revé in the 60's to become a founding member of Los Van Van and stayed for over 30 years, but left in 2001 when Pupy Pedroso, his close friend and padrino (or is it the other way around?), struck out on his own to form another of the hottest bands in Havana, Los Que Son Son. In addition to violin, Gerardo is playing the electropads in Los Que Son Son on their first European tour (2004)
