CD Review - Final by Pedro Luis Ferrer
Escondida Music Released March 25, 2014
Review by Bill Tilford, all rights reserved

Pedro Luis Ferrer's long career includes the Rock/Fusion band Los Dada, which fused Rock and Trova in Cuba in the late 1960s and the 1970s. In later years, his career focused primarily on acoustic music, and his lyrics often contain social commentary (which has landed him in some controversy), His musical style is deeply rooted in the Guaracha and a modification of Changüi that he has named Changüisa.
His latest album, Final, is primarily an acoustic outing with a few tracks using midi orchestration in backing tracks. For this listener, the most emotionally powerful tracks were those that were purely acoustic with the exception of the final track, Titiritíti, which uses brass orchestration to great effect in the finale. This is an intimate, poetic album with songs of romance (and at times heartbreak), but the music is upbeat and uplifting. Recommended for that quiet Saturday or Sunday morning when you are doing nothing in particular with a loved one.
