Cuba based rap duo, Zona Franka, blends traditional rhythms with the grit and swagger of hip-hop and rap vocal phrasings. Their clever shout choruses create instant tropical dance classics using their unique self-titled "changui con flow" style.

notes: This is an even more expressive example of Arsenio's "singing bass" (bajo cantado) innovation. The first 3 notes of the bass tumbao double the melody of the word "cangrejo", the next two reinforce it rhythmically, and the last three supply a countermelody.

cuban music, musica cubanaArsenio's greatest and most prolific period was arguably from 1946 to 1951, with Lázaro Prieto on bass and Lilí Martínez on piano. Dundunbanza and its companion volume Montuneando contain about 40 classic tracks from this golden era, but leave out some of the very best tracks, some of which can be found on Tumbao's "Legendary Sessions" CD (with Chano Pozo), and in the transfers of Emiliano Echeverría. Even still, there are quite a few tantalizing listings in the Díaz discography that have apparently never been transferred.
